Gas PR Form Guide

Navigate gas PR Form complexities including well gas vs casinghead gas, plant products, commingling procedures, and balance requirements.

Gas PR Form Fundamentals

Gas PR Forms involve more complex balancing than oil due to multiple gas streams, plant processing, and various disposition types. Understanding gas types and proper classification is essential.

Gas Types in PR Forms:

  • Well Gas: Gas produced from gas wells
  • Casinghead Gas: Gas produced from oil wells
  • Plant Products: Liquids extracted at processing plants
  • Residue Gas: Dry gas after processing
Balance Rule: Total gas production must equal total dispositions within acceptable tolerance levels (typically ±2%).

Gas Disposition Codes

Proper disposition coding ensures accurate reporting and regulatory compliance.

Code Description Common Usage
01 Sold Gas sold to purchasers/pipelines
02 Used for fuel Lease fuel, compressor fuel
03 Flared Gas flared (with authorization)
04 Vented Gas vented (emergency only)
05 Injected Enhanced recovery operations
06 Plant intake Gas sent to processing plant

Commingling & Plant Reporting

When gas from multiple leases is commingled or processed together, special reporting procedures apply.

Commingling Requirements:

  • File Form P-4 for commingling authorization
  • Maintain detailed allocation records
  • Report each lease's proportional share
  • Document allocation methodology

Plant Product Reporting:

  • Report plant intake volumes by lease
  • Allocate plant products back to leases
  • Account for plant fuel and losses
  • Balance residue gas output
Important: Commingled gas requires RRC authorization before operations begin. Unauthorized commingling can result in penalties.

Balance Tolerances & Validation

Gas balancing allows for small variances due to measurement uncertainties and operational factors.

Acceptable Tolerances:

  • ±2% for volumes >10,000 MCF
  • ±200 MCF for volumes <10,000 MCF
  • Zero tolerance for negative dispositions
  • Flare/vent volumes require authorization

Common Balance Issues:

  • Meter calibration differences
  • Temperature/pressure corrections
  • Timing differences in measurements
  • Plant processing delays
  • Allocation calculation errors

Flare & Vent Reporting

Flaring and venting require special attention due to environmental regulations and RRC oversight.

Reporting Requirements:

  • Use appropriate disposition codes (03 for flare, 04 for vent)
  • Include RRC authorization numbers in remarks
  • Document reasons for flaring/venting
  • Report volumes accurately
